Sound familiar?

It’s Sunday night and you decide that everything starts Monday. You say it with conviction. You believe it.

On Monday you follow through. On Tuesday too, with a little less force. On Wednesday something comes up and you tell yourself you’ll pick it back up tomorrow. By Thursday you can’t remember what you were going to pick back up.

The alarm goes off at the time you chose. You hit snooze. Five more minutes, you tell yourself. It turns into forty.

You promised yourself no phone at night. It’s one in the morning and you’re still scrolling through videos you don’t care about.

You said you’d finish that project this week. You opened it, cleaned off your desk, answered some emails and closed it without writing a line.

You told your son you’d play ball on Saturday. On Saturday you were tired.

You didn’t lack information. You knew exactly what to do. You didn’t lack time either: you found it for other things. You lacked the ability to do what you said once you stopped feeling like it. And every broken promise leaves a mark: the tenth time you say “I’ll start Monday,” part of you no longer believes you.

II

Why the Stoics

The Stoics didn’t see discipline as punishment. They saw it as training. They used the same word for the athlete and for the philosopher: askesis, exercise.

Epictetus, who was a slave before he became a teacher, put it this way: every capacity is preserved and grows through the actions that correspond to it. Walking, by walking. Running, by running (Discourses, II, 18). Keeping your word, by keeping it.

Plutarch tells how Cato the Younger trained himself to bear heat and snow with his head uncovered, and to travel on foot while his friends rode (Life of Cato the Younger, 5). He didn’t do it to suffer. He did it so that hardship would never find him soft.

And Marcus Aurelius, carrying an empire at war, wrote himself this order: “No more debating what a good man should be. Be one.” (Meditations, X, 16).

They weren’t men without laziness or temptation. They were trained men.

III

What Forge Discipline Is

Thirty days of training for a single capacity: doing what you say. With a method, not with white knuckles.

  • One standing promise. A single action you keep for all thirty days, at the same time, with a minimum version for bad days. Minimum, yes. Zero, never.
  • A different mission every day, in four phases:
  • The Word (days 1 to 7): keeping small promises and earning back your credit with yourself.
  • Discomfort (days 8 to 14): doing what’s hard, on purpose.
  • Temptation (days 15 to 21): learning to say no.
  • The Work (days 22 to 30): holding steady without applause until it’s who you are.
  • A two-minute log every night: what you did, how much you felt like it before and after, and the voice you used to negotiate with yourself. Your own numbers will show you that the feeling often shows up after you start.
  • The five voices of the negotiator: the Postponer (“I’ll start tomorrow”), the Exception (“today isn’t a normal day”), the Indulger (“just this once”), the Accountant (“I’ve done enough”) and the Defeatist (“what’s the point, if…”). Each one with its answer.

Each day opens with a quotation from Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus or Musonius Rufus, with its exact source, and a reading that takes no more than five minutes.

How it works

Three steps. The first one, today.

I

Today, your standing promise

You read the Quick Start and choose a single action for the thirty days, with a minimum version for bad days. You write it down and sign it.

II

Tonight, day zero

You set up your log in the tracker or on paper, put the cards where you’ll see them and check off the day zero list.

III

Thirty days of holding the line

In the morning, the day’s page; during the day, your promise and the mission; at night, the log. On days 7, 14, 21 and 30, the phase review.

VI

Who it’s for, and who it isn’t

It’s for you if…

  • The man who starts strong and quits in the second week.
  • The man who knows exactly what he needs to do and doesn’t do it.
  • The man who wants to believe himself again when he makes himself a promise.
  • The man who prefers a concrete method to one more motivational video.

It’s not for you if…

  • The man looking for a total change in a week, without effort.
  • The man who won’t give five minutes in the morning and two at night for thirty days.
  • The man who wants theory: here every day has a mission and a checkbox.

Frequently asked questions

What format is it in?

Everything is digital and you download it from the Hotmart download email. The texts and printable sheets come as PDFs; the tracker is an Excel file (.xlsx) that also opens in Google Sheets; the phone wallpapers are high-resolution PNG images.

How do I get access?

As soon as your payment is confirmed, Hotmart sends you an email with the link to download the kit. There’s no platform to log into and no classes to follow: you download the files once and they’re yours to keep.

It arrives in 5 files:

  • Welcome (PDF)
  • Workbook (PDF)
  • Tools (ZIP file)
  • Cards and Certificate (ZIP file)
  • Phone Wallpapers (ZIP file)

If you don’t see the email, check your spam or promotions folder. With the email you used to buy, you can sign in to your Hotmart account and download the files again whenever you want.

Can I print it?

Yes. The PDFs are made for printing at home (A4; on US Letter paper, choose “Fit to page”). The cards are ready to cut out. If you’d rather not print anything, everything works on screen too.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. The PDFs read well on any phone, and the tracker works in the free Google Sheets or Excel apps. The wallpapers are sized exactly for your phone.

How much time does it take?

Five minutes in the morning and two at night, plus your standing promise and the day’s mission.

What if it isn’t right for me?

You have a 7-day money-back guarantee from the date of purchase. If it isn’t what you expected, request a refund through your Hotmart account and you’ll get the full amount back, no questions asked.

How can I pay?

With a credit or debit card or with PayPal, on Hotmart’s secure checkout. In the US you can also choose Pay Later. Prices are in US dollars; outside the US, Hotmart shows you the amount in your local currency. Sales tax, if it applies in your state, is calculated at checkout.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once. No monthly fees, no renewals.

Thirty days from now you’ll be one of two men. The one who said “I’ll start Monday” again, or the one with a log that shows he can do what he says, whether he feels like it or not.

Stop debating what kind of man you want to be. Start tonight.
